Department of Biochemistry & Nutrition

Profile

The Department of Biochemistry was established in the year 1999 and currently offering courses in Undergraduate (BINDC) and Postgraduate (M.Sc Biochemistry) programs. The department is well equipped with spacious laboratories, sophisticated instruments and other infrastructural facilities to conduct the courses effectively. Students are trained to possess good subject knowledge with strong technical skills and are prepared to gain employment. They are constantly exposed to various extra-curricular activities like workshops, field visits, value added courses, guest lectures and national seminars to enhance their learning abilities. The students pursuing courses in the department are well placed in reputed pharmaceutical and biotech industries and have also completed Ph.D from reputed institutions. Currently, there are seven higly qualified and experienced faculty members working in the department to train and nurture the students. The department focuses on research activities and received funding from the Department of Biotechnology (DBT, New Delhi) under the DBT-Star College scheme to strengthen undergraduate courses, initially for a period of three years (2019-2022) and it was extended for another two years (2023-2025).  Faculty members of the department are constantly involved in research activities and guide students in various short term projects. Research funding from Government agencies like DST and UGC to the department strengthened the research profile. The department has been recognized as research center in Biochemistry under Osmania University. Apart from academic activities, department regularly arranges health camps for staff and students of the college and to the neighboring community to monitor their health status. Outreach programs for the children of government schools are regularly conducted. The department through various activities moulds the students to enhance their scientific knowledge and make a mark in various emerging fields of life sciences.
