Profile

The Department of Mathematics started with the inception of the college in 1993, with one lecturer and three undergraduate courses (Maths-Physics-Chemistry, Maths-Physics-Electronics and Maths-Physics-Computer Science). Statistics was introduced in 1994 with one lecturer and one undergraduate course (Maths, Statistics, Computer Science). After 27 glorious years and the 28th year on, the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, which started with an intake of 60 students, has expanded to an annual intake of nearly 300 students. As on date, the Department has a strength of about 990 students, an increase of 16 times plus, the initial intake.

    National Science Day

    A skill based training program in matlab was organised by Department of Mathematics and Statistics, BVC, in association with SOFT LOGIC SYSTEMS Pvt. Ltd. Chennai under DBT-STAR College Scheme from 05-02-2024 to 05-03-2024 in Online mode. The 30-hour MATLAB training program aimed to equip participants with practical skill in data analysis , visualization and algorithm development. Participants received comprehensive instructions on functionalities ranging from basics operations to the advanced techniques and hands-on excersises on real-world examples ti reinforce understanding and application of MATLAB concepts. 30 Students of B.Sc II and III year (Physical Science) took active participation . By the end of the program, participants demonstrated profiency in utilizing the MATLAB for various analytical tasks and problem solving scenarios. Post training assesments indicates significant improvement in participant’s MATLAB skills and confidence in applying them to their respective fields.

    National Science Day

    An E-Poster Competition was organised by Department of Mathematics and Statistics, BVC, as a part of NATIONAL SCIENCE DAY CELEBRATIONS, under DBT STAR COLLEGE Scheme on 28-02-2024 in online mode. The Judge for the event was, Mrs. Suryavardhini, Assistant Prof., St.Francis Degree and P.G College, Begumpet, Secunderabad and the topic was “Math behind building a sustainable future”. 24 UG Students (12 teams)registered and 22students(11 teams with 10 Female and 12 Male participants)took active part. They presented their E-Poster and explained the content of it highlighting on the role of mathematics in achieving the sustainable development Goals. Students also interacted with the judge answering her questions on their posters. 1st prize was bagged by Anish Raju, Nitin Goudand the 2nd prize wasreceived byRohan Seetepalli, Srinath Reddy

    Guest Lecture

    Guest Lecture was organised by the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, Under DBT-Star College Scheme on“Contributions of Srinivasa Ramanujan” on 22nd December 2023 commemorating the birth Anniversary of Srinivasa Ramanujan . The esteemed guest speaker for the event was Prof K Satyanarayana,Retired Professor of Mathematics ,Osmania University. Total 131 students attended the guest lecture out of which 55 males and 76 females. Prof. K. Satyanarayana began by talking about the essence of Mathematics in human life and then slipped into sharing the contributions of the legend of Mathematics ‘Srinivasa Ramanujan’ . He briefed about Ramanujan’s childhood and marriage life followed by the problems posed by him . He also spoke about the work life of Ramanujan and his life of poverty. The letter Ramanujan wrote to G. Hardy attached with 121 unsolved theorems was also highlighted. Ramanujan researched 7 papers with Hardy and contributed many more to the field of Mathematics . After sharing his entire life story , the guest discussed about the different aspects of Maths in an interesting way. After the lecture, a felicitation session took place for all the winners of various competitionsheld by department of Mathematics and Statistics commemorating the birth Anniversary of Srinivasa Ramanujan . And all the students who scored ‘O’ grade in Mathematics 4 consecutive semesters were also awarded with a medal and a certificate by the chief guest .

    The guest lecture, themed "Roadmap to Success - Unveiling Opportunities in Pharma, Clinical Research, and Data Science," was held by the Mathematics and Statistics Department on December 21, 2023, at the Seminar Hall in the MBA Block. Five esteemed speakers shared invaluable insights into their respective fields, enriching attendees with knowledge and inspiring anecdotes. Mr. Sarvesh Singh emphasized the importance of self-motivation, conflict resolution, commitment, and dedication in the pharmaceutical industry. The event seamlessly blended theoretical understanding with real-world applications, exploring clinical research intricacies with Mr. Hanumantha Rao and delving into the dynamic realm of data science with Mr. Shekhar Sukoju. Mr. Abhishek Dhanuka provided a bridge between data science and pharmaceuticals, showcasing transformative possibilities. Ms. Nikki Singh's motivational journey added a personal touch, encouraging students to navigate challenges with resilience. A notable highlight was the discussion on PHUSE (Pharmaceutical Users Software Exchange), introduced by Mr. Sarvesh Singh. The speakers elaborated on how PHUSE facilitates collaboration and knowledge-sharing within the industry, emphasizing its role in advancing research and development through standardized approaches and best practices.

    A guest lecture was organised by department of Mathematics and Statistics, BVC, under DBT STAR COLLEGE Scheme on 20-12-2023 in offline mode. The Guest speaker was, Dr. Jayashree Tatineni, Professor and Head, Department of Humanities and Sciences, VNR VJIET, and the topic was “Applications of Differential Equations”. 71(Female- 33, Male-38) UG students took active participation. She explained various real life problems where Differential equations are used to find the solution to overcome them.

    Math Grill was organised by Department of Mathematics and Statistics, BVC, under DBT STAR COLLEGE Scheme on 19-12-2023 in offline mode. 27(Male-12, Female -15) UG students took active part in this event. The math grill competition was a successful and enjoyable event, fostering a spirit of healthy competition and intellectual engagement. It provided a platform for participants to showcase their knowledge.

The Judge for the event was, Mrs. Saba Firdous, Associate Prof., St.Ann’s Degree and P.G College, Mehdipatnam, Hyderabad and the topic was “Applications of Mathematics in Medical Field”. 32 UG Students (16 teams) took active part. They presented their E-Poster and explained the content of it. Students also interacted with the judge answering her questions on their posters. 1st prize was bagged by G. Chanakya and T.S.N.S Vasisht and 2nd prize was received by R.Sree Vardhini and N. Keerthana Reddy

    Guest Lecture

    Guest Lecture was organised by the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, Under DBT-Star College Scheme on“Higher Education in Mathematics” by Mr. J V Chandra Mohan, Managing director on 14th December 2023. This guest lecture was aimed at benefiting the BSc (Physical Sciences) Students. Total 90 students attended the lecture out of which 57 males and 33 females. Sir provided valuable insights into the various options available after obtaining a bachelor’s degree(BSC) and covered essential aspects such as choosing a path after graduation, types of entrance exams, and distinctions among IITs, NITs and other universities.The lecture emphasized the importance of carefully considering options after completing a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics. Sir highlighted different paths, including pursuing postgraduate studies, entering the job market or opting for specialized courses.

    QUIZ IN LINEAR ALGEBRA

    The linear algebra quiz for final-year undergraduates covered essential concepts such as vector spaces, linear independence, matrices, eigenvalues, eigenvectors, determinants, inner product spaces, linear transformations and decomposition. Students demonstrated their understanding of advanced topics, including Rank. The quiz aimed to assess their proficiency in applying these concepts to real-world problems in various scientific and engineering domains. Overall, it provided a comprehensive evaluation of their mastery of linear algebra principles as they prepare to graduate. Total number of participants 176

    Department of Mathematics and Statistics has organized an Online Alumni Talk,on 12-08-2023 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon, which was a comprehensive event that encapsulated a diverse range of topics. Our Alumni Lt. Cdr Hem Kumar Naidu, Sr. Manager SLP, Amazon and Mr. Vijay Raghavan M, Director Operations- 24/7 were immersed in discussions about upcoming technologies, providing them with insights into the ever-evolving landscape of their respective fields. Employability skills took center stage, by enhancing the practical knowledge and professional aptitude of attendees. The entrepreneurial spirit was also nurtured through interactive sessions that shed light on the intricacies of starting and sustaining businesses. The event was further enriched by alumni success stories, inspiring current students with real-world examples of achievement and growth. Overall, the alumni talk served as a dynamic platform, fostering learning, networking, and motivation for both past and present members of the institution. Total 110 number of students have attended the event.
